These documents are fact sheets that describe statewide initiatives involved in developing comprehensive services for individuals with complex support needs in Oregon:

Assistive Technology Resources

  • Tom Keating, Eugene Research Institute, was very helpful in introducing the possibilities of assistive technology.  (www.eugeneresearch.org 541.342.1553)
  • Rest Assured, an organization associated with Perdue University & the Wabash Center in Lafayette Indiana, offers telecaregiver services and kindly gave me an on-site tour of their tele-caregiver center (www.restassuredsystem.com 888.423.5531 ext 348)
  • PLUK: Parents, Lets Unite for Kids (Montana state parent & information Center) has two publications I found interesting in thinking about AT—Assistive Technology Ideas for Reading, Writing, Math, Studying & Organization and AT for Children with Learning disabilities (www.pluk.org click on Publications)
  • Elite Care Technologies www.elitecare.com “relationship-based elder care” with sites in Milwaukie & Tigard
  • Check out mail order catalogs like Harriet Carter, especially ones that cater to seniors
  • Cruise stores like Radio Shack, or the home health & electronics departments in Big Box stores
  • Talk to home security businesses, an occupational therapist or tour a retirement center
  • Other disability advocacy organizations, like Independent Living Centers and the Commission for the Blind often have collections of massive catalogs of assistive technology, both incredibly cheap & insanely expensive.
