Positive Behavior Support

Pos­i­tive Behav­ior Sup­port (PBS) con­sid­ers what is impor­tant to the per­son and for the per­son and imple­ments those val­ues into a com­pre­hen­sive plan to address chal­leng­ing behav­ior. PBS focuses on val­ued out­comes such as teach­ing or strength­en­ing skills, enhanc­ing rela­tion­ships, and increas­ing par­tic­i­pa­tion in the community.

OTAC behav­ior sup­port staff pro­vides spe­cial­ized train­ing and tech­ni­cal assis­tance to ser­vice providers who directly sup­port peo­ple with devel­op­men­tal dis­abil­i­ties.
Our ser­vices include but are not lim­ited to: design­ing proac­tive, pos­i­tive behav­ioral sup­port strate­gies for spe­cific indi­vid­u­als, espe­cially those who are in cri­sis; and assur­ing pro­gram­matic com­pli­ance with fed­eral, state and local regulations.

All train­ing and tech­ni­cal assis­tance pro­vided is deliv­ered with the aim of enabling com­mu­nity providers to sup­port per­sons (both chil­dren and adults) with dis­abil­i­ties in a man­ner that assures health, safety and rights, and enhances the provider’s knowl­edge or abil­ity to best sup­port peo­ple in inte­grated res­i­den­tial, school and employ­ment set­tings.

OTAC experts in pos­i­tive behav­ior sup­ports offer train­ing and tech­ni­cal assis­tance to per­sons and agen­cies that pro­vide sup­ports for indi­vid­u­als who present dif­fi­cult and chal­leng­ing behaviors.

Staff spe­cial­iza­tion includes:

• Behav­ior con­sul­ta­tion for chil­dren and families
• Behav­ior sup­ports for adults and chil­dren with disabilities
• Behav­ior sup­ports for adults and chil­dren who expe­ri­ence men­tal illness
• Behav­ior sup­port and train­ing for seniors in com­mu­nity res­i­den­tial programs
• Behav­ior sup­port and train­ing of licensed fos­ter providers
• Gen­eral staff train­ing in behav­ior supports
• Assess­ment and treat­ment of severely chal­leng­ing behav­ior includ­ing self injury, pica, aggres­sive and assaultive behavior
• Sup­port­ing peo­ple with autism and related disabilities
• Com­pre­hen­sive func­tional assess­ment, includ­ing behav­ioral aspects of person-centered planning
