Positive Behavior Supports

Positive behavior support (PBS) considers what is important to the person and for the person and implements those values into a comprehensive plan to address challenging behavior. PBS focuses on valued outcomes such as teaching or strengthening skills, enhancing relationships, and increasing participation in the community.

OTAC behavior support staff provides specialized training and technical assistance to service providers who directly support people with developmental disabilities. Our services include but are not limited to: designing proactive, positive behavioral support strategies for specific individuals, especially those who are in crisis; and assuring programmatic compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

All training and technical assistance provided is delivered with the aim of enabling community providers to support persons (both children and adults) with disabilities in a manner that assures health, safety and rights, and enhances the provider’s knowledge or ability to best support people in integrated residential, school and employment settings. OTAC experts in positive behavior supports offer training and technical assistance to persons and agencies that provide supports for individuals who present difficult and challenging behaviors.

Staff specialization includes:

• Behavior consultation for children and families

• Behavior supports for adults and children with disabilities
